Bowden mayor Robb Stuart paid tribute last week to the passing of former town councillor Albert Gamble. Abby (Albert) Gamble passed away March 7, at age 67. He was born in Mannville, Alta., which is about 83 kilometres west of Lloydminster, on Aug.

Hope4MVCKids is one of four charities or non-profit groups that will benefit from the second annual Spring Fling, a kind of community party/multi-group fundraiser celebrating the arrival of spring.

The Olds and District Chamber of Commerce board of directors has chosen its executive for 2016-17. The president is Stephen Dodwell, Pomeroy Inn & Suites. Vice-president is Ben Stone, BMO Nesbitt Burns.

George Arden received a special honour at Sunrise Village this month for his service in the Second World War. Arden, 94, was the recipient of the Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour.

Theft of vehicle licence plates continues to be a problem in Olds. Olds RCMP say on March 10, two such incidents occurred. On that day, a licence plate was stolen from an RV in the 4800 Block of 50 Street.

The Spring Fling committee is planning to make Olds wrestler and soon-to-be Olympian Danielle Lappage an ambassador for the event. Local realtor Hugh Bodmer provided town council with an update on the event on March 14.

The annual Special Olympics Charity Sno Pitch Tournament took place at O.R. Hedges from March 12-13. Local resident Mary Smith organizes the event each year and reported that more than $6,000 was raised, $1,000 more than usual. "It went great.

It was more than 25 years ago when Mayor Robb Stuart was sitting with friends in the Bowden Hotel when he was jolted from his chair by a thunderously explosive crack from outside. He was literally thunderstruck.
