Bowden mayor Robb Stuart paid tribute last week to the passing of former town councillor Albert Gamble.

Abby (Albert) Gamble passed away March 7, at age 67. He was born in Mannville, Alta., which is about 83 kilometres west of Lloydminster, on Aug. 25, 1948.

He was the husband of current Bowden councillor Sandy Gamble and was himself a Bowden town councillor from October, 1992 until October, 1998.

A funeral service for Gamble was held March 14 at the Bowden Lions Hall.

Stuart paid tribute to Gamble during the March 14 town council meeting and in correspondence with the Albertan.

“Albert was hugely dedicated to the community. He coached minor sports for many years,” Stuart said.

“He was a huge volunteer and donated many hours for the many activities of our Recreation and Culture Board. He helped set up, clean up, cooked burgers and any other activities that needed doing.

“He was a very competent carpenter and worked on the town float for many years. He was involved with Canada Day, Movie in the Park, Bowden Daze, the Bowden cemetery and many other projects.”

Gamble was also an active member of the Bowden and District Agricultural Society.

“He was instrumental in the building -- and the success -- of the Community Action Park and contributed many resources to this project,” Stuart said.

Albert Gamble is survived by his wife Sandy, as well as several children, grandchildren and other relatives.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Expanding Horizons Bowden Cultural Enhancement Society, which is endeavouring to build a new community hall in Bowden.
