Flags began flying at half-mast at the Olds Town Hall Thursday morning in the wake of Wednesday's tragedy in Ottawa.

Lots of spooky events will be on in the Uptowne area of Olds this Friday and Saturday afternoon/evening.

RCMP have released a 32-year-old Red Deer County man without charge after finding him sitting in a truck in uptowne Olds with a long-gun on Oct. 22.

Local Members of Parliament are safe, according to spokesmen for their offices as reports swirl of at least one – and possibly several -- gunmen on the loose in Ottawa.

Olds High School grad Mitchell Ormann is pleased and grateful to have received a $25,000 President's Entrance Citation Scholarship from the University of Alberta.

An open house will be held at the Olds Campus Community Health Centre in the Ralph Klein Centre, Oct. 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.

This year, winners of the Olds and District Chamber of Commerce's two major business awards will get a chance to possibly win another award – this time at the provincial level.

Town council has passed a land use bylaw amendment that would see the commercial core of the Uptowne area expand westward. The area in question runs from 48 Street to 52 Street and as far west as 52 Avenue. The bylaw was passed on Oct. 14.

Only one person raised concerns with a redevelopment plan for East Olds during a public hearing on the matter. Council approved the plan, officially known as the East Olds Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP), Oct. 14 in council chambers. The goal of the ARP is to guide future growth, rehabilitate key areas, improve transportation, buildings, and set policies to preserve areas of historical and cultural significance.
