The decision by Olds town council to provide $1,000 to help fund a conference to get people talking about suicide and depression is a good use of taxpayer funds.

A former resident of Britain now living in Mountain View County is wondering what will happen to her homeland now that it has voted to leave the European Union (EU). She's hopeful all will eventually go well. The vote was held Thursday.

Olds town council has approved a $1,000 donation for a conference aimed at getting people talking about suicide and depression. The event is called "The Conversation Has to Happen" and is scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites.

The Town of Olds hopes public consultation will take place in 2017 on what the legacy of Canada's 150th birthday will look like in town.

Olds' Dwayne "D.J." Neustaeter finished first in the Belayed Speed Climb event at the Prairie Chapter Tree Climbing Championship held at Olds College this month. Neustaeter climbed a 60-foot spruce tree in 19.2 seconds.

On Monday, June 27, Red Deer County fire officials began investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a farmhouse east of Bowden. Firefighters were called to the scene – on Rge. Rd. 281, south of Highway 587, at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
