"For the last couple of years, our current student housing, Frank Grisdale Hall, has been filled to capacity with (a) waitlist and so this new project is so meaningful," said Kathy Kimpton, the college's vice-president of student and support services.
"Not only is it going to give us more beds for our students to live in, it's going to give them student housing that they're demanding and that means single rooms, ensuites with common areas, so we're very excited about this."
The four-storey, 11,700 square-metre residence will be serviced by O-NET's one-gigabit-per second broadband service for Internet speed in each of its 450 rooms, said Tanya Kure, project manager at Shunda Consulting and Construction Management Ltd., the company responsible for building the housing complex.
Centennial Village will be fitted with boot rooms, which allow students to clean up, change and do laundry after messy work in the college's heavy equipment centre, riding arena and botanical gardens, she added.
Kimpton said construction is now focused on the residence's exterior and will shift to the interior in the coming months.
She added that the future of Frank Grisdale Hall is undecided.
