MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY  —  A bicycle race west of Olds is slated to occur for a third straight year on May 11.

As always, it will be based out of the Hainstock Hall.

The first race category starts at 10 a.m. Racers in the last category are expected to finish by about 4 p.m.

Last year, 140 racers registered for the event. As of May 2, 90 had registered for this year’s edition.

Volunteers will be out along the roads to warn drivers of racers on the course.

“There will be no road closures, just potential short traffic stoppages lasting less than a minute, to enable racers to pass through intersections safely,” organizer Jenn Proche wrote in an email.

“We kindly ask drivers to watch for race participants and to drive carefully when passing.”

Proceeds from the race go to the Mountain View Emergency Shelter.

“In 2022, our first year (that wasn't snowed out or cancelled due to COVID), we donated $500, and last year, we were able to donate $750,” Proche wrote.

“This year, we hope to double last year's donation to $1,500 for a total of $2,750 over three years.”

Although the race largely consists of members of the bicisport Calgary Cycling Club, Proche says it’s also supported by Mountain View County residents.

“We appreciate all the support we've received from the community over the years,” Proche wrote.
