OLDS — It’s time for the Olds Kiwanis Auction.

The 53rd annual live auction takes place Dec. 12, 6 p.m. at the Olds Legion, Branch 105.

As always, members of Rosehill Auction Service will donate their time for the occasion.

“Rosehill Auction and Olds Auction Mart have donated their resources since its inception,” Olds Kiwanis president Murray Elliott says.

Proceeds from the event will go to support funding the many projects and programs the Kiwanis Club of Olds and District sponsors in town.

Those projects and programs include 4-H public speaking, Breakfast for Learners, soccer goals for the new athletic park, support for the scout and guide hall and maintenance of eight playgrounds throughout the town. They also support the Kiwanis music festival and entertainment at the TransCanada Theatre.

There are a couple of new aspects to the auction this year.

One is that for the first time, a 50/50 draw will be offered, with proceeds going toward the Christmas Angels. Those volunteers collect toys and other items for Christmas hampers for those who need them.

Also, some of the larger items for sale will be available for you to check out on the Kiwanis Club of Olds and District website.

Elliott is impressed with the way local businesses have gotten behind the effort.

“The submissions seem very strong from local businesses, despite these dreadful economic times,” Elliott says, adding he’s “very grateful for that.”

Elliott is also impressed with the fact that, year after year, lots of volunteers come forward to make it happen.

“Everybody has a Kiwanis vest on and we’ll be running all night to help folks,” he says.

“It’s a great time to get some last-minute Christmas gifts. Good products, good prices and all the money goes back to the community.”
