One of Innisfail's star minor hockey players is in the running to play for Team Canada. Taryn Baumgardt, 17, is heading to Calgary in August for the Team Canada U-18 national women's team selection camp.

A local football coach has been nominated as a “game changer” in a regional competition that could help bring $100,000 to Innisfail. Wally Genz is a nominee in the Scotiabank Game Changer competition under the Calgary Stampeders category.
