Innisfail native Andy Willigar blasted a shot below the crossbar in double overtime March 23 to lead the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks to their first championship in 16 years, capping off a distinguished college hockey career.

Maeghan Wild finished sixth in the 65-kilogram cadet division at the Cadet Juvenile National Wrestling Championships in Saskatoon from April 5 to 7.

Local wrestler Amber Maschke is off to the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, after claiming a bronze medal at the Junior Canadian Championships in Fredericton, N.B. The Canadian tournament took place March 22 and 23.

From long country drives on frozen nights travelling to unassuming rinks, to tussles and lineup changes on the ice, to bull sales and volunteer events off the ice, it was a long road to the provincial championships for the Innisfail Eagles.

The Olds midget A Grizzlys are provincial champions after beating Beaumont 5-1 in the final at the tournament held March 21 to 24 in Vermilion. "We just really came together. We had some pretty high expectations,î said coach Joel Hunter.
