The Sundre Curling Club ended its 2012-2013 season with an open bonspiel that ran from March 20-24.

Teams from Sundre, Olds, Cremona and area competed in the annual event which saw action in three events along with a Saturday evening banquet, calcutta and dance.

The event marked 25 years of curling out of the existing building as well as consecutive attendance in the final spiel by two longtime supporters. Sundre's Marlene Cardon and Cremona's Nels Brian have played in the bonspiel consecutively for 51 and 47 years respectively.

Olds curlers Adam Winter, Aaron Winter, Doug Manning and Brian Krall topped the field following a win over Sundre's Garrett Dichrow in the A event final.

Another Olds team made up of Craig Pagan, Rod Brusky, Gary Richards and Larry Flessatti needed only six ends to defeat Patti Gardiner to win the B event while family team of Travis, Dale, Marilyn and Randy Phillips of Sundre won the C event with a win over Shania Snyder.

Curling enthusiasts will now turn their attention to Olds this week as the Provincial Mixed Playdowns are being held from March 27-31.

Action is slated every day with draws at 2 and 7 p.m. during the week prior to weekend playoffs. Two local curlers, Parker and Rebecca Konschuh are part of the Nadine Chyz team competing in the playdowns.
