A Pincher Creek-area man died in a two-vehicle collision that occurred last Wednesday at approximately 8:49 p.m. west of Bowden.

Police have made an arrest into the bombing murder of 23-year-old Vicky Shachtay, disabled single mother of one who died in her ground level apartment in Innisfail Nov. 25, 2011.

The RCMP is conducting a search at a residence in Innisfail in relation to an ongoing criminal investigation. Despite a heavy police presence at the residence, police said there is no threat to public safety.

About 30 people crammed into council chambers last week with a half dozen more spilling into the hallways to voice their concern over the proposed rezoning of half an acre of land located in the Upland Aspen subdivision.

Census questions Penhold councillors came up with a few questions to include on the upcoming municipal census that will occur if enough workers are found.

The mill rate for Penhold municipal taxes was set during the May 14 town council meeting and taxes are heading up for the first time in two years. Town manager Rick Binnendyk said the overall average change is 4.75 per cent.

The Penhold Youth Club is trying to raise enough money for the group to go to West Edmonton Mall at the end of June by hosting a family barbecue and carnival on May 25. “Our goal is $1,000,” said Amanda Hoffer, Penhold's youth director.

Assaults An Innisfail man was charged with assault after a complaint from his spouse on May 11. Police responded to the call at about 9:30 at night.

A presentation of a land supply and growth potential study saw Penhold councillors calling for a higher population growth rate to be used in the study. Jolene Tejkl of Parkland Community Planning Services presented the study to council.

Five Korean War veterans from the Innisfail Korean Veteran's Association recently received their ambassador for peace medal in Calgary.
