A Pincher Creek-area man died in a two-vehicle collision that occurred last Wednesday at approximately 8:49 p.m. west of Bowden.

It is believed a northbound Chrysler Cordoba driven by a 24-year-old male was attempting to cross Secondary Highway 587 at the intersection of Rge. Rd. 14 when it was struck by an eastbound Pontiac Vibe driven by a 65-year-old female from the Innisfail area. The intersection is controlled by a stop sign.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles ended up in the northeast ditch. The male driver was ejected from the vehicle. Olds RCMP attended the scene, along with Alberta Emergency Health Services, and the Bowden Fire Department

The male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the female driver was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Olds RCMP says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision. However, it is believed that speed and failing to stop at a stop sign were contributing factors.

No charges will be laid relating to this collision. Olds RCMP will not release the deceased's identity.

The Olds RCMP detachment reminds motorists to obey traffic control devices and to remember to properly wear your seatbelt.
