Waste commission tractor stolen

A John Deere tractor belonging to the Mountain View Regional Waste Management Commission was stolen after the Didsbury landfill was broken into during a weekend in late November.

A John Deere tractor belonging to the Mountain View Regional Waste Management Commission was stolen after the Didsbury landfill was broken into during a weekend in late November.

Commission chair Mary Anne Overwater reported the news to Olds town council on Nov. 23.

The tractor was used for cutting grass, plowing snow and towing a magnet around for nails, said chief administrative officer Pat Sliworsky.

“They came in the back end of the site, where they cut the gates and locks in order to get in,” he said.

Overwater said she hopes the replacement cost will be covered by insurance.

According to the RCMP, the 2013 John Deere 4520 was stolen sometime between when the landfill was closed on Nov. 21 and when workers arrived the morning of Nov. 23.

“It doesn't appear to have been driven out,” said Didsbury RCMP Cpl. Clint Gulash.

The green tractor had a front-end loader on it and its vehicle identification number is 1LV4520HKDY946913.
