OLDS - A former Olds Minor Hockey player has been recalled this week from the Chicago Wolves to play with the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Carolina Hurricanes as the team remains one win away from advancing to the second round of NHL playoffs.
Don Waddell, president and general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, made the announcement Thursday.
Seeley was chosen by the Carolina Hurricanes during the 2020 NHL draft.
The left-shooting defenceman was taken in the seventh round, 208th overall.
Going into the draft, NHL Central Scouting had ranked him 75th among North American skaters.
He signed a three-year entry-level contract in 2021 with the Hurricanes and played with Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
The same day Seeley was called up, the Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders to lead its first-round playoff series 3-0 against the New York Islanders.
Seeley, 21, posted 14 points in 58 AHL games with Chicago in 2023-24. He also skated in 11 ECHL games with Norfolk this season, recording three assists.
The six-foot, one-inch tall, 192-pound defenceman has tallied 39 points in 128 career AHL games, all with the Wolves.
Seeley registered 102 points in 190 Western Hockey League (WHL) games with Everett from 2018-22, captaining the Silvertips in his final season of junior hockey.
During the 2021-22 season, he posted 44 points in 52 WHL games and was named a WHL Second Team All-Star. Seeley represented Canada at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, winning gold.
