OLDS - An Olds resident brought home several gold medals from the 2024 YONEX Canadian Masters Badminton Championships held recently in Markham, Ontario.

Mary Marshall, who is the executive director of the Olds & District Hospice Society, upped her game this year from last year’s bronze medal showing.

This year, she won gold along with partner Daisy Lee from a racquet club in Vancouver in women's doubles 40+.

“Our gold medal match for doubles went three games and we were not expected to win,” said Marshall. “But through our teamwork and smart play style we were able to persevere. The competition was very skilled and we had to stay very mentally focused to stay consistent and win.”

Marshall credits training with her son for the gold medal she won in women's singles 40+ “as he is very fast, strong and tall and a fierce competitor. He whipped me into shape!”
