Police stepping up checkstops during the holidays

Olds RCMP say police are stepping up Alberta checkstops to discourage and possibly arrest those who drink and drive this holiday season.

Olds RCMP say police are stepping up Alberta checkstops to discourage and possibly arrest those who drink and drive this holiday season.

“Police encourage the use of local cabs, designated drivers, phoning a friend or any other alternative to driving while impaired to ensure everyone arrives at their intended destinations safely,” an Olds RCMP news release says.

As recently as Nov. 28, Olds RCMP dealt with a suspected drunk driver on Highway 2.

Police say the driver failed a breath sample. He was then arrested and taken to the Olds RCMP detachment where he was asked to provide more breath samples.

As a result of these samples Kimpton Edward Johns of Red Deer was charged with impaired operation over .08.

He is scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Jan. 4.
