OLDS — A public hearing has been scheduled regarding a proposal to change a town bylaw so a daycare facility can be set up in a local strip mall.

The hearing will be held Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. in town council chambers

The proposed location for the daycare facility is in the strip mall where Smitty’s and the CIBC is. The official address is 4513 - 52nd Avenue.

Specifically, the land use bylaw would be changed to allow a daycare facility as a permitted use in a shopping centre commercial District (C-SC).

“It is common practice for municipalities to have daycares in a commercial strip, as they are deemed a compatible use,” a Request For Decision from administrative staff said.

A public hearing has to be held before the bylaw can be considered for final approval.

In the meantime, the bylaw will be advertised so members of the public are aware and can attend if they wish.

Letters regarding the proposed change will also be sent to adjacent land owners for their comment.
