Starting in the new year, Bowden residents will be shelling out 50 cents more per person to help the town's library keep up with expenses.

Town council last week approved a 50-cent increase in per capita funding for the library.

“We're currently at $4 per capita. We will be at $4.50 per capita in 2016,” chief administrative officer Andy Weiss told the Albertan.

He was asked if the hike will take effect Jan. 1, 2016.

“Well, we pay them once a year, so whenever (that occurs),” Weiss said.

He said the increase is much needed.

“It assists the Bowden Public Library with their day-to-day operations. They pay staff, they pay a number of things that we all pay for and this money assists them in keeping the library open.”
