Track meet advances 23 OHS athletes to zones

A total of 23 members of the Olds High School track and field team qualified for the zone championships while competing at the Mountain View County Championships held in Didsbury on May 15.

A total of 23 members of the Olds High School track and field team qualified for the zone championships while competing at the Mountain View County Championships held in Didsbury on May 15.

To qualify for zones, the athletes had to place either first or second in their events.

Some multiple event winners were:

1. Carson Jorgensen- first in the Grade 12 boys 3,000 metres, 1,500 metres and javelin and second in the four-by-400-metre relay.

2. Tanner Pochapsky- first in the Grade 11 boys 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, and 4-by-100-metre relay.

3. Brody Dirk- first in the Grade 10 boys 100 metres, 200 metres and four-by-100-metre relay.

Other athletes who placed first or second in their events were:

4. Morgan Lynch- second in the Grade 10 girls triple jump.

5. Hannah Ker- first in the Grade 11 girls 400 metres, second in the 200 metres and second in the four-by-100 metre relay.

6. Nicole Schultz- second in the Grade 10 girls 400 metres, second in the four-by-100-metre relay and second in the four-by-400-metre relay.

7. Tirion Goodinson- second as a member of the Grade 10 girls four-by-100-metre relay team. 8. Lauren Roblee- second as a member of the Grade 10 girls four-by-100-metre relay team.

9. Quincy Jones- second as a member of the Grade 10 girls four-by100-metre relay team.

10. Cale Brown- first in the Grade 10 boys 800 metres, first in the four-by-100 metre relay and second in the four-by-400 metre relay.

11. Greg DeLong- second in the Grade 10 boys 400 metres, first in the four-by-100-metre relay and second in the four-by-400 metre relay.

12. Walter Foss- first as a member of the Grade 10 boys four-by-100-metre relay team.

13. Jensyn Unger- second as a member of the Grade 11 girls four-by-100-metre relay team.

14. Sara Kish, second as a member of the Grade 11 girls four-by-100 metre relay team and second in open girls four-by-400-metre relay.

15. Shaelyn Moritz- second as a member of the Grade 11 girls four-by-100-metre relay, second in open girls four-by-400-metre relay.

16. Alex Rommele- first as a member of the Grade 11 boys four-by100-metre relay team.

17. Kevin Spicer- first as a member of the Grade 11 boys four-by-100-metre relay team. 18. Brody Spreeman- first as a member of the Grade 11 boys four-by-100-metre relay team.

19. Jasneal Dhaliwal- second as a member of the open boys four-by-400-metre relay team.

Also advancing to zones were all of the OHS pole-vaulters respectively (some of whom had already qualified in their other events):

20. Nicole Schultz- Grade 10 girls pole vault.

21. Cydney Winter- Grade 10 girls pole vault.

22. Shaelyn Moritz- Grade 11 girls pole vault.

23. Alex Groves- Grade 12 girls pole vault.

24. Courtney Schafer- Grade 12 girls pole vault.

25. Connor Aitken- Grade 10 boys pole vault.
