The senior girls basketball team at Sundre High School had a good season, which started in December, says the team's co-coach.

Debra Leslie said they finished fourth in the league.

ìI think it has been a pretty good season - they've had a lot of fun,î she said.

ìThey've had some really challenging games, some ups and some downs.î

She said the girls improved greatly throughout the season, as Leslie has been coaching the team for years.

One of the highlights of the season was when the team won a game against the Calgary Christian team, she said, referring to them as a highly ranked competitive team out of the city.

ìEverybody participated as a team and everybody had their different strengths,î she said.

However, the league was more competitive this year compared to previous years, she said.

ìIt was a little tougher for us to survive in because it was so competitive.î

She said there is always stuff to work on and improve as a team.

She encourages students to play sports because it helps them develop life skills and values.

ìIt's so valuable in learning sportsmanship, leadership, getting along with other people and having fun,î she said.

ìIt's one of those memories that people remember when they leave high school.î

She gives credit to fellow coach Kent Janz, who stepped up and helped her coach the team this season.

ìHe was fantastic at working with the girls on their technical skills.î
