The Olds Peewee Huskies were soundly defeated 49-0 by the Stettler Panthers on Saturday at Normie Kwong Park in Central Peewee Football League action.
The Huskies were unable to mount much of an attack against the Panthers, who were able to chew up yards against the Huskies' defence.
Neil Skaluba, head coach of the Huskies, said the Panthers were able to exploit the weakness in the Huskies' defence and put up a lot of points through the running game.
“Stettler found our weakness in our defence and they exploited it, getting outside on many of their touchdown runs. We couldn't contain the outside and as a result, they kept running for touchdowns,” he said.
The snowy and cold conditions made the game a little more difficult for both teams, with the Huskies suffering several turnovers from a slippery pigskin.
“We didn't fumble too many times. But we certainly fumbled more often than in the past,” he said.
More than the weather, however, the team didn't respond well to the opposition posed by the Panthers.
“We just came out real flat. Our offence sputtered,” he said, noting that after the first few minutes of the game, the Huskies weren't able to execute the plays as well as they would have liked.
The Huskies will be playing in the playoffs this week in Sylvan Lake against the Bears, a team that they played to a 0-0 draw previously this season.
“It should be a good test for both teams,” he said.
