Local youths make top four in junior high rodeo finals

Olds resident Rance Coats and Kashton Ziebarth of Cremona qualify to compete in national finals later this year

OLDS — Two local youths finished among the top four in the province during the Junior High Provincial Rodeo Finals, held May 26-28 in Rimbey.

Olds resident Rance Coats placed first in team roping and third in ribbon roping. Kashton Ziebarth of Cremona placed second in team roping.

Alberta High School Rodeo chair Patricia McKean says as a result, Coats and Ziebarth have the opportunity to compete in the U.S. in the National Junior High School Finals which will take place June 18-24 in Perry, Georgia.

However, she says it’s unclear whether they’ll make that trip because it’s such a long way to go.

The top six have the chance to compete in the Canadian Junior High rodeo finals which will be held Aug 2-5 in Brandon, Manitoba.
