OLDS — Local discus thrower Rachel Andres is hoping for better results in the last couple of meets remaining in the season after a frustrating performance in Edmonton July 3.
In an email, Andres said the Pre World Championships Invitational meet, held in Edmonton on July 3, turned out to be a tough one, not only for her, but other competitors as well.
Athletes from at least eight different countries competed in that meet.
In discus, Andres found herself competing against athletes from Canada and the U.S.
“I did not perform as high as I would have liked, throwing only 49.89m (metres),” she wrote in an email.
However, Andres indicated she was not the only one disappointed by their performance.
“Everyone was flat after having competed at their respective Nationals the week before," she wrote.
Rachel Dincoff, ranked fifth in the world after a throw of more than 65m, won the competition with a toss of 59.99 m.
Although that throw wasn’t up to Dincoff’s 65 m toss, it did break Andres’ stadium record of 58.44m.
Andres, recovering after having delivered a baby just this past April, was unable to hit that mark.
“So now I’m a little annoyed and now need to go back and break that next year when I’m back to 100 per cent. Lol," Andres wrote.
Andres competed in the Provincials, held July 8-10 in Calgary. An update on her performance there is expected later.
