School was back in session for students at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys on Sept. 4. Principal Rose McQuay said the school is up to about 275 students from 256 last year. She noted that's even after the school lost its French immersion program.

Tax assessment contract renewed Wild Rose Assessment Services Inc., the company that's been looking after the Town of Innisfail's property since 1994, will continue doing so for at least another three years. In their regularly scheduled meeting Aug.

The former Innisfail RCMP constable who was convicted of extortion, criminal harassment and mortgage fraud was sentenced to serve seven years in jail in the Court of Queen’s Bench in Red Deer on Aug. 31.

The 26th Annual Pine Lake Country Fair & Sports Days, sponsored by the Crossroads Agricultural Society, was held on August 10-12 at the Crossroads Ag Park, Pine Lake. Old-fashioned fun for the entire family was had under beautiful blue skies.

Local MP Earl Dreeshen is ready to head back to Ottawa for the fall session of Parliament. Dreeshen, the MP for the Red Deer riding which includes Innisfail, spoke at a meeting of the Innisfail Rotary Club on Aug. 30.

Penhold town council voted to spend $383,000 on storm water upgrades to try and address flooding issues during its Aug. 27 meeting. “This is not a budgeted item,” noted Chief Administrative Officer Rick Binnendyk.

Council agreed to pay $4,000 towards the construction of a storm sewer culvert to complete a sale of land to Poplar Grove Property Development Inc. Aug. 27 instead of the $9,000 requested by the buyer.
