Tax assessment contract renewed

Wild Rose Assessment Services Inc., the company that's been looking after the Town of Innisfail's property since 1994, will continue doing so for at least another three years.

In their regularly scheduled meeting Aug. 27, council voted to extend the contract, which was not put out to tender.

Cost of services will be adjusted annually based on parcel growth. The charge for the 2012-13 year will be $82,350.00 plus GST, according to a planning document prepared by former chief financial officer Heather Whymark.

Town staff said there are not a lot of options for towns of this size, so the contract was not tendered. The motion was approved unanimously.

Fire hall pricetag jumps $28,000

Council approved an additional $27,626.08 for the Innisfail Fire Hall project on Aug. 27.

In the 2011 and 2012 budgets, council had directed $1,879,590 to the project, which did anticipate some costs such as tearing down a house on the parking lot, telecommunications and IT work, furniture and a security system.

The town had initially thought overruns would be over $40,000 but one of the invoices will be covered by the builder, according to staff.

Funding will come from the fire reserve budget, leaving about $50,000.

The additional costs were approved unanimously.

Destiny Trail signs coming down

A series of signs along the Destiny Trails system are being removed from the route, being deemed too shabby to stand while the town considers updates.

The paved and natural trails connect the town with 20 kilometres of walking, jogging, bicycling, in-line skating and cross-country skiing. The signs are 15 years old and need to be replaced, said Mayor Jim Romane during the Aug. 27 meeting.
