CREMONA - The Court of King’s Bench trial for a man charged in the May 2021 death of Cremona-area woman Brenda Ware scheduled to take place starting this week has been postponed, court officials said Friday.

Philip Jeffrey Toner, 43, faces charges of second-degree murder, arson damage property, and interfering with a dead body, all from May 5, 2021.

Ware was last seen in Didsbury on May 4, 2021 and found deceased in Kooteney National Park near Radium, B.C. two days later.

Ware lived near Cremona and worked as a hairstylist in Sundre.

Toner was arrested and charged on May 11 and remains in custody.

His trial was scheduled to be held Jan. 15 to Jan. 26 in Calgary Court of King’s Bench.

In announcing Friday that the trial had been postponed, court officials did not give a reason for the postponement, noting only that Toner will be back in court March 1 to speak to the case.

Barley a month after completing a five-year sentence in a federal institution after being convicted of sexually assaulting a female minor, Toner was back in police custody after an RCMP investigation into the suspicious death of Ware.
