CREMONA - Council has instructed administration to gather more information, including possible costs, for the development of future walking trails and bike paths in Water Valley and Cremona.
The move came by way of motion at the recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting.
The village recently received a letter from area residents Colin and Nathan Ryan about developing the paths.
“I have put together a group of local Cremona and Water Valley residents interested in developing bike and hiking trails in the area,” said Colin.
The group is in the process of becoming a non-profit society, he said.
“Our group will be focusing on developing a trail network in the William Bagnall Wilderness Park (west of Water Valley) as well as maintaining the bike skills park I constructed in Water Valley,” he said.
The group is interested in developing a bike skills park in the village, he said.
“I have talked about that with (mayor Tim Hagen) in the past and just wanted to re-open that discussion,” he said.
The society plans to spearhead the trail and path projects through various means, he said.
“Our goal with this society is to fundraise projects through membership sales, government grants, events and donations,” he said.
“We think a bike skills park in Cremona would have many benefits to the village and also it would boost the visibility of our group and member base.”
Bike skills parks provide opportunities for mountain bike riders of all levels to work on bike handling, balancing, jumping and turning. They typically include obstacle courses elements.
Council passed a motion approving chief administrative officer Karen O’Connor seeking out further information and costs for the services proposed by the Ryans.
