Even if you are indoors, here are 10 ways to stay fit in February that are fun and motivating.

Do a bit of yoga

Yoga has been around for thousands of years, and there is no doubt about why. It’s for anyone at any age. It burns calories and tones muscles, but the biggest benefit to all is that it is also good for strengthening, stretching and relaxing. Target your core, and work on balance.

Go to the pool

If you haven’t been swimming since your youth, February is a good month to start. Water workouts are full body and have many benefits to improve balance and breath. Try out aquafit classes or just play around in the water.

Go to the gym

If you feel you have been stuck at home too much lately, then motivate yourself by seeing and meeting new people, and take advantage of the fitness machines, the great advice and the cardio equipment at the gym.

Use Apps

If you can’t get to the gym, try fitness apps that give advice, provide a workout, award points and let you know how you are doing along the way. The Participaction app is one you may not know about. It is easy, fun and challenging, with real online workouts provided by a joint agreement with the YMCA.

Gentle Strength

A lot of these fitness ideas here are appropriate for all ages, including weightlifting! Gentle strength workouts and weightlifting are important to a healthy body. Get prepared for everything coming in the spring with a simple light weight and high repetition workout for building strength and endurance.

Keep it low and slow

Not all workouts need to be exhausting. Low impact workouts are just as good, and maybe even better to help you get the benefits of that slow buildup of cardio.

Work out at home, so to speak

There is a lot of work around the house that counts as movement. Thirty minutes, five days a week is recommended, so start spring cleaning a little bit early this year. Sweep the garage, wash the kitchen floor, shovel some snow. These activities need to be done, they burn a lot of calories and are similar movements to what you would do at the gym. Prepare now for gardening and yard work so you don’t put your back out in the summer! Here are some tips from WebMD.

Walking

Walking is one of the best movements there is; natural, easy on the joints and it moves all parts of the body. If you get outdoors with it, it also offers fresh air and sunlight. Use a fitness tracker to count your steps for added motivation. Bring it indoors in bad weather, or motivate yourself by walking with others. Count your virtual steps with a fitness tracker and make some distance!

Go outside with the kids

Just have a bit of fun outdoors with your kids or grandkids. Walk, go skating, or tobogganing. Just be out there.

Work with a personal trainer

If you have fitness goals, or feel you have health needs that require a bit of personal attention, take advantage of spring sales in February and find a personal trainer who will help and motivate you to get moving, as well help you be sure that your fitness choices are right for you.

The main idea is to get fit, get moving and get motivated in whichever way sounds good to you! The weather can be iffy in February, and you may be looking forward to its end, but do take advantage of what you have right now to try some of these activities and find your fitness your way.
