10-2 Balance Time
Yoga is a great way to clear your mind and practice self-care.

In the busy world we live in, many of us end up overworked, overwhelmed and overtired. With all this hustle bustle, it is important to obtain a work-life balance that is beneficial to us. Read on to get a few ideas of what you can do to manage your time more effectively and prevent burnout.

3 Tips for Self-Care

  1. Disconnect

We tend to get caught up in the world of social media, comparing ourselves to everyone around us. This creates a negative mindset and a constant need to push forward, even when we are exhausted. Try disconnecting for a while. It’s hard to do, but try it for one day. If you can’t do it for a whole day, start with a few hours each day. Giving your brain that rest will help you rejuvenate and relax.

  1. Get Outside

Being stuck indoors all day, whether at work or home, can create anxiety and negative energy. This energy winds up our mind and body. Turn off the phone, put on your shoes and get outside. The fresh air clears your mind and relaxes your body. Take a 30-minute walk, explore your neighbourhood or go to a park.

  1. Find a Hobby

Hobbies are a great form of self-care. Take up yoga, read or crochet. These things help your mind to stay creative and imaginative. Focusing on something just for you is an integral party of self-care.

3 Steps for Time Management

Achieving a good work-life balance is easier when you manage your time each day. It is important to draw a line between the two so you do not burn out. Managing your time starts with knowing where it is going.

  1. Determine Your Responsibilities & Priorities

List your daily personal and professional responsibilities. Are you taking on too many responsibilities? Is there anything you can remove or delegate? The key is to only have tasks that need to be done.

Now list your priorities. They can be personal or work related. Do they align with your responsibilities? If not, what can you do to change this? How will you dedicate more time to your priorities? To answer these questions, you need to think about your goals.

  1. Set Personal & Professional Goals

Divide your goals into personal and professional. Focusing on what you want to achieve prepares you to take more control over how you use your time.  Turn these goals into SMART goals. Learn more about SMART goals.

  1. Make A Plan & Take Action

Create a blank schedule for the day. Fill it in with all the tasks you have to do. Use the time left to list your personal goals and priorities.  Be sure to make time for rest.

Now it’s time to take action!  Find a technique that works for you and modify your environment to make it work. Get rid of all distractions that waste your time instead of utilizing it. A quiet space will help you focus on your tasks. Learn more about time management tips.

Blocking your time and taking care of yourself is essential for mental health and maintaining a good work-life balance. Though many people know about time management and self-care, many do not implement it. The best way to practice these things is to know what is important to you and what will help you achieve it.
