Two Sundre boys are travelling to Europe in the spring to play on the AAA Canadian Explorers team.

There were around 50 kids from across Canada that tried out for the team, and two of them are Sundre's own Thomas Robertson and Carter Vooys.

At age 11, Vooys, a goalie, and Robertson, a defenceman, are in their first year of peewee hockey and play on the same team.

They were scouted last hockey season and tried out for the team in August. They found out they made the team in September.

They will be going to Germany, Austria and Czech Republic for 15 days, participating in about 20 games and three major tournaments.

The team will get together in March for one skate before heading to Europe to play together.

ìI'm really excited,î said Robertson. ìAt first in B.C. I really hated hockey and then we moved here (in 2009) and I kind of wanted to play hockey again.î

ìI turned out to be a really good hockey player and now I'm here.î

He started playing hockey at age six and Vooys started playing at age five.

ìIt's a team sport, fast paced and I just really like to get active,î said Robertson, noting that he also enjoys playing soccer.

He is currently junior coaching for Sundre Minor Hockey and is really enjoying that as well.

He was proud to be a part of the Sundre Huskies Atom A team that won provincials last year.

When asked what his goals are, he said ìto work really hard, be a good sportsman and make it to the NHL.î

ìMy favourite team is the Pittsburgh Penguins but I'd want to play for the Vancouver Canucks,î he said.

Vooys was unavailable for comment by press time.
