Impaired operation of a motor vehicle

On Saturday, Feb. 27, the RCMP Sundre detachment, along with the assistance of the RCMP Rocky Mountain House Integrated Traffic Unit, did enhanced roving patrols of the Sundre detachment's area. A lengthy Checkstop was conducted in which numerous drivers were checked for sobriety. Later in the evening, a 20-year-old female from British Columbia caught the attention of police when she decided to do a brake stand at the traffic lights on Main Avenue and Centre Street. She was stopped and found to be grossly impaired and was subsequently arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired. She was found to be three times the legal limit.

Improper parking

The RCMP and the Town of Sundre's community peace officer will be raising awareness regarding people who choose to park on the wrong side of the street facing the wrong way. Please your park your vehicles on the appropriate side of the street in line with the direction of travel of the lane. For the month of March, registered owners whose vehicles are found improperly parallel parked will receive a written notice in the mail reminding them to properly park. Those who continue to do so after the initial warning will be subjected to a $57 fine under section 45(1) of the Use of Highway and Rules of the Road regulations.

Additionally, the RCMP will also be concentrating on occupant restraints, or seatbelts, for the month of March. Please buckle up and ensure that your children are also buckled and their car seat properly secured. The fine for not wearing a seatbelt in Alberta is $115.
