Several badger complaints in the Sundre area

Several complaints about badgers in the Sundre area have been reported to Sundre fish and wildlife officers over the past few weeks.

Willy Rasmussen, problem wildlife technician in Sundre, said badgers are shy animals and if they cross paths with a human they will most likely return underground.

They can, however, be dangerous if they are cornered.

"It seems like they are very bad this year," admitted Rasmussen.

Adam Mirus, fish and wildlife officer for the Sundre-Olds area, said badgers are attracted to their food source, which is mostly mice, rodents and ground squirrels.

"They are not a very social critter. They don't like to be seen or anything like that," said Mirus.

"If people are around they'd be scrambling to get to their hole before they'd be running towards people."
