School trustees acclaimed in six wards

Six trustees have been acclaimed in the Chinook's Edge School Division, with election campaigns now underway in the three other wards, according to unofficial nomination results released Monday.

In the Sylvan Lake/Benalto Ward 1, first-term incumbent Joe-Anne Matejka is facing off against challenger Jackie Swainson.

In the Innisfail Ward 4, there are three candidates: Derek Baird, Holly Bilton and Linnea Thompson. Eight-term incumbent Penny Archibald did not seek another term.

Ron Fisher, fifth-term incumbent in the Sundre Ward 6, was acclaimed.

In Bowden/Spruce View Ward 5, third-term incumbent Connie Huelsman is facing off against challenger Linda Possakka.

Colleen Butler, third-term incumbent in the Delburne/Elnora Ward 3, was acclaimed.

Trudy James, first-term incumbent in the Olds Ward 7, was acclaimed.

Gord Kerr, first-term incumbent in the Didsbury Ward 8, was acclaimed.

Sherry Cooper, third-term incumbent in the Penhold/Poplar Ridge/Springbrook Ward 2, was acclaimed.

Sheldon Ball was acclaimed in Carstairs/Cremona Ward 9. Incumbent Bill MacFarquhar did not seek re-election.

Candidates have until Sept. 24 at noon to withdraw their candidacy.
