People reminded to be cautious of scams

March is Fraud Awareness Month and police are reminding everyone to be cautious of scams.

Sundre RCMP Cpl. Ryan Hodge said fraud hasn't been much of a problem in the Sundre area, but people should still be aware of it.

ìPeople just need to be aware of all scams. They typically come from all over the world nowadays,î said Hodge.

ìWe're in such a global fraud kind of situation where people are targeted from across Canada and different countries all around the world.î

Caution urged when buying online

People are reminded to be cautious when picking up items that have been posted online from strangers' homes.

The Sundre and Area Buy and Sell Facebook page is becoming more popular with 3,046 members as of March 6. It is a site for people in the Sundre area to sell and purchase items.

ìAny time you're dealing online and with people you don't know definitely there needs to be some awareness that these people might be fraudulent or there might be other intentions,î said Sundre RCMP Cpl. Ryan Hodge.

ìBut for the most part I think there isn't really a danger there.î

There have not been any incidents reported in the Sundre area.
