Although Sundre's 2014 New Year's baby was born on Jan. 1 at the Sundre hospital, he didn't arrive home until Jan. 8.

Nadine and Coleman Perry welcomed CJ Perry on New Year's Day at 12:21 p.m., weighing in at nine pounds, seven ounces.

However, shortly after, he was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Red Deer hospital.

ìHe ended up having to go to the NICU in Red Deer, so that's why it took so long for all this to happen, because he had some low blood sugar at first and then breathing problems and some other stuff came up,î explained Nadine.

ìHe's doing really good now. Very healthy, growing, eating lots.î

CJ has two older brothers, eight-year-old Wyatt Erickson and 13-month-old Kade Perry.

His due date was Dec. 28.

ìI kept telling everybody I was going to have the New Year's baby,î said Nadine, noting that they knew they were having a boy but didn't tell anyone.

ìI told everybody I was going to wait until New Year's Day to have him because that was actually my grandpa's birthday that day.î

She said having the New Year's baby feels ìsurrealî and ìhard to believeî.

She is grateful for $1,000 worth of gift cards they received from the Sundre Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, as part of the annual New Year's baby celebration.

There are four gift cards valued at $250 each for Sobeys, Pharmasave, Pharmachoice and V&S Options.

ìWe're very grateful for receiving the gifts and for all the doctors and nurses at the hospital in Sundre and Red Deer.î
