New vice-president and directors for chamber of commerce

After the recent annual general meeting, the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce acquired Wendy Morton as its new vice-president.

After the recent annual general meeting, the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce acquired Wendy Morton as its new vice-president.

President Sherry Tytkanych, secretary Heidi Overguard, and treasurer Amie Flowerday were all sworn in by acclamation.

Also joining the chamber for the next three-year term are new directors Tracy McGinnis of Tier One Travel, Dennis Overguard of Rural Route Tours and Dr. Margaret Penny of Sundre Vision Centre.

Jim Eklund of the Bargain Browzer joined again for his second term in the chamber, as did longtime chamber member Marty Mennear of Sundre Sobey's.

Eklund has previously served on the chamber in the role of president.

President Tytkanych says she is eagerly anticipating what this new term will bring.

“It's an all-female executive again, so that's exciting,” said Tytkanych.

“We plan on working closer with the town, as well as assisting in new businesses coming to the town.”

The chamber is currently in the process of completing and launching its new website, which should be operational sometime in April of this year.

Tytkanych says her goal is to help strengthen the bond already present between local businesses in Sundre.

“The main thing is working closely with the town and making that bond stronger.”

Plans to continue the annual Community Awards and Volunteer Appreciation night are also underway, said Tytkanych.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 2 at the Sundre Community Centre, honouring local groups and individuals and businesses for “Outstanding citizenship, services, and volunteerism.”
