A wide load was driven through town on Monday of last week, after the same company brought one through a couple of weeks prior, but had troubles getting through the bridge overlooking the Red Deer River.
The second time around, the house was double in size, but made it through town safely.
Tim Willcox, Safari Building Movers (SBM) foreman, said the bridge was clear of snow this time around.
However, company officials went ahead and checked the measurements for a second time before giving the OK to bring the house through.
ìIt did not get stuck, it went really well through town, we just had to take our time,î said Willcox, admitting they did come close with a few trees.
The house took three days to go from Calgary to Eckville.
A few companies were called during the three-day journey to lift power lines on Highway 53 north of Rocky Mountain House, in order for the house to get by, he said.
When SBM officials were moving the previous house through town, it became stuck on the bridge due to a pileup of snow on both sides.
Because of this, the house blocked all access of vehicles getting through the bridge for more than an hour.
Every time SBM officials move a load, they take all measurements necessary beforehand, he said.
After they attempted to shovel the snow from the roadway, they realized it would take too long and they removed a streetlight on the side of the bridge, he said.
The windrow along the bridge forced them to shift four feet north, which is what caused the light pole to interfere.
There are many struggles with moving large loads across the province, he said.
ìThere's all kinds of challenges, we can't pass anybody on the road or anything like that,î said Willcox.
ìWe have to stop every 10 to 20 miles, pull the load over and let all the traffic by,î he said.
ìWe appreciate everybody's patience while we do this kind of work. We try to get out of the way as best we can for people.î
