Sundre’s economic development officer Jonathan Allan was “arrested” last week for defrauding the municipality and embezzling $500,000. Sgt. Jim Lank, commander of the local detachment, hauled in the suspect on Wednesday after reading his rights and doing a full body pat-down at the town office. The staged arrest was part of the local ATB’s annual Jail ‘n’ Bail event, which raises funds for the Alberta Children’s Hospital by having the volunteer “convicts” call people in the community to raise enough “bail” money to get out. Also brought in were Tom Jackson, for indecent exposure, as well as Jenn Anderson, for fraudulently selling used tires as brand new. A little more than $5,100 was raised by the time the jailbirds secured their bail.
