Wal-Mart employee who spoke to Albertan fired

An Olds Wal-Mart employee who shared her views with the Olds Albertan about how the store treated a woman wanting to breastfeed in a fitting room was fired on the weekend.

An Olds Wal-Mart employee who shared her views with the Olds Albertan about how the store treated a woman wanting to breastfeed in a fitting room was fired on the weekend.

Diane Warren said in an interview with the Albertan earlier this month that no one should have told Tanya Planken she should nurse her daughter in the store’s washroom instead of a fitting room.

Planken has filed a complaint with the Alberta Human Rights Commission over the issue.

Warren said she was fired on Aug. 18 because she wasn’t learning her job fast enough but added she believes her termination was a result of speaking to the media.

A store manager would not comment on the issue.
