Have you ever wanted to wander through a rain forest but couldn't afford the trip? Maybe you always wanted to be an astronaut and go to space. What if you cannot swim but always wanted to scuba dive?

Well now, thanks to virtual reality (VR), all those things are within reach. Olds Municipal Library is pleased to announce, thanks to the Glen McKracken Endowment Fund, its newest technology acquisition is a VIVE VR system.

Offering a virtual reality headset in the library demonstrates our commitment to the future of Olds and area residents. As technology advances, we want our community to be able to participate as fully as possible.

The future of VR could mean immersive therapy for the physically disabled or an opportunity for students to learn coding in a completely new fashion.

There is an endless list of possibilities for the technology. While VR might represent a single gaming experience for some, it may mean a lifetime of learning or career opportunities for others.

Adults are invited to come explore the technology at no charge during our Adults Geek Out session. On Aug. 3, drop in any time from 5 to 7 p.m. and get a chance to discover why we are so excited to have this new device.

Nischuk is a marketing coordinator for the Olds Municipal Library. Olds Municipal Library is located at 5217 52 St. and can be reached by phone at 403-556-6460.
