According to Doug Wagstaff, director of community services for the Town of Olds, the ice surface at the Olds Sportsplex was reopened on Aug. 28 at noon.
A workplace injury was responsible for the closure of the arena on Aug. 27.
"We had an accident last night and one of our employees ended up going to the hospital," said Norm McInnis, the town's chief administrative officer.
The incident is still under investigation but McInnis said the employee lost "part of a couple fingers."
McInnis said the worker was hurt while training a new employee on an ice machine the evening of Aug. 26.
The male worker was taken to the Olds Hospital and Care Centre and then transported to hospital in Red Deer before being released the morning of Aug. 27.
Some rink maintenance needed to be done before putting the Sportsplex back into operation, McInnis said.
"The ice machine was out on the ice letting hot water go and there's a pretty big chunk of ice that needs to be repaired," he said. "Plus the machine … we have to get the company that maintains it to come and inspect it before we go back into service."
