OLDS — A fire that destroyed a shop east of Olds yesterday remains under investigation, but its cause is not believed to be suspicious, Olds Fire Department Chief Justin Andrew says.

The fire department got the call to a rural property on Rge. Rd. 28.5, a mile south of Highway 27, at 11:11 a.m. Monday, May 23.

The Olds Fire Department responded with 15 firefighters and the Didsbury Fire Department brought six.

A post on the Olds Fire Department’s social media page says the shop was “fully involved” by the time firefighters arrived.

Andrew says there were no injuries to firefighters or home occupants as a result of the fire.

However, the shop and contents were completely destroyed, including a seacan that was adjacent to the structure.

“A shed and various vehicles surrounding the shop were saved, and the house sustained damage to the siding as a result of the heat but was protected early by fire crews and remained inhabitable,” Andrew wrote in an email.

He said an exact estimate of the loss has yet to be determined.
