At least two Bowden councillors will not seek re-election this fall.

While Mayor Robb Stuart and Coun. Wayne Milaney have confirmed they will run for their seats again in October, councillors Cory Jasper and Sheila Church said they are stepping away from politics in Bowden.

“I have enjoyed my time on council but unfortunately will not be seeking re-election,” said Jasper, who has served one term as a councillor and also represents council on a variety of community boards. “I have two children actively involved in sports as well as I have taken a new position at work which has me back on shift work.

“I cannot devote the time needed to be effective on council due to my work and family commitments.”

Church said she would only consider serving another term “should there not be a full slate of candidates” and is ready to pass the torch to someone new.

“I've been a councillor for eight years now and feel that it's time for one or two energetic Bowdenites with fresh ideas to bring their skills and vision to the council table. I've enjoyed my time on council, have learned a great deal and met many interesting people.”

Councillors Patrick Doll, who is serving his first term, and Sandy Gamble are still undecided about whether they will run again.

Stuart is in his first term as mayor and previously served as a councillor for two terms between 2001 and 2007.

Milaney, who said he is running again out of a “love” for the position, has served three terms as a councillor.

The deadline for nominations for this year's municipal election is Sept. 23.

Advance polls are scheduled for Oct. 12 and election day is Oct. 21.
