Town officials are looking into an incident in which a trailer that monitors vehicle speeds was tipped onto its side.

Chief operating officer Doug Wagstaff says the incident occurred some time late Sunday night (Oct. 9). At the time, the unit was located on 54th Street by the auction mart.

“No one has been identified being involved in the incident. The mechanism has been checked over. (It is) operational, and no damage occurred to the mechanisms on the trailer,” he says.

Olds RCMP Cpl. Mike Black says police were not made aware of the matter.

Wagstaff says the trailers are very useful.

“Their presence is an educational tool to draw awareness to road speed in an area,” he says.

A display on the unit allows drivers to see if they're travelling faster than the posted limit.

But that's not their only capability.

The trailers also record a traffic count and record data for bylaw enforcement staff to analyze traffic speed.

“This data is at times shared with local police to identify areas that may require enhanced traffic enforcement,” Wagstaff says
