Of the 66 total tickets issued during an Olds RCMP-led traffic blitz along Highway 27 last week, half of them were for tinted windows.

The RCMP's Cpl. Shawn Morgan said there's no legal amount of shade on the front driver- and passenger-side windows, nor the windshield.

"It's strictly what would come from your factory," he said. "The safe bet is to go with what came manufactured on the vehicle. Anything you add after-market as far as tint would be illegal."

Morgan said it's the owner's responsibility to ensure their vehicle is compliant with the Traffic Safety Act's Vehicle Equipment Regulation.

Therefore, don't blame the autobody shop.

"A lot of these things, people would buy them and it could be something for show-and-shine stuff, where you'd cart your vehicle to an area and have it on display. It's not being driven on a roadway then," Morgan said.

"Once it's driven on roadway and doesn't meet vehicle equipment regulations, it's an offence. There's no onus on them to ask (if) you're putting this on your vehicle (for show)."
