Town sells garbage truck

BOWDEN – Bowden town council has agreed to sell its 2012 International Refuse Compactor (garbage truck) for $105,000, well below the $125,000 asking price.

BOWDEN – Bowden town council has agreed to sell its 2012 International Refuse Compactor (garbage truck) for $105,000, well below the $125,000 asking price.

When councillors put the truck up for sale, they gave chief administrative officer James Mason the authority to negotiate a price that was within 10 per cent of that figure.

If the price dipped below that leeway, then the matter had to be taken to council.

That's what happened in this case.

After a five-minute discussion, council voted to approve the sale to an Ontario company.

Coun. Wayne Milaney jokingly suggested the town could supply a full load of garbage to go with it.

“One man's trash (is another man's treasure),” a councillor said.

Mason told the Albertan the truck was no longer needed once the town went to the roll-out bin system a couple of years ago.

Councillors agreed the longer the truck sits, the more it will deteriorate.
