Town receives update on pandemic costs

Twenty-five requests received for utility bill deferrals
olds-news

OLDS — As of May 11, the town had incurred $21,809 in expenses directly related to its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, finance director Sheena Linderman told councillors.

The town had received 25 requests for deferrals on utility bills.

Tax notices were scheduled to be sent to property owners on May 12.

Coun. Heather Ryan wondered whether the town had received any requests for property tax deferrals.

Linderman said no, it had not.

“And the taxes aren’t a deferral as such. We’ve just extended the due date. So they don’t have to contact us in order to defer them,” she said.
