Open house to provide comment on plan set for Aug. 27

OLDS — A committee representing the town of Olds and Mountain View County has updated a draft development plan for the two municipalities.

It includes a proposal to annex three quarter sections of land north of Highway 27 and east of Highway 2A on the northeast corner of the town.

The Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) is a plan that coordinates land use and development decisions between the two municipalities involving land close to the town.

It also addresses land uses the county may consider close to the town and areas in the county identified for future town growth.

Other topics include environmental and economic development, planning for transportation corridors, and coordinating development of future infrastructure.

In order to enable residents, landowners and community organizations to provide feedback on the IDP, the Intermunicipal Collaboration Committee, the group that created the updated plan, has scheduled an open house.

It will be held Thursday, Aug. 27 between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion Branch 105.

To view a copy of the draft plan, residents and landowners can visit olds.ca/statutoryplans and click on the tab labelled Inter-Municipal Development Plan & IDP Update.

The county’s website also has a link to the plan.

To get there, visit mountainviewcounty.com, scroll to Home, Property and Development, click on Intermunicipal Development Plans, then click on Town of Olds IDP.

Comments are welcomed, town and county officials say.

“The updated draft is a continuation of our positive working relationship and coordination of land use planning between our two municipalities,” says Olds Coun. Mary Jane Harper, who chairs the Intermunicipal Collaboration Committee.

“Feedback from the public is a key part of our plan process,” Mountain View County reeve Bruce Beattie says. “We encourage those who are interested to look over the document and share their thoughts with us.”

The Town and County prepared their first intermunicipal development plan in 2006/2007.
