OLDS — The 2021 edition of Kiwanis Club of Olds 50/50 cash raffle fundraiser has only been held for a short while, but already club president Murray Elliott is impressed with how successful it has been.

As of May 13 it had already raised $2,200.

“I think to be at two grand is pretty good,” Elliott said during an interview.

Money raised goes toward the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society (MVESS).

The MVESS provides outreach services to people suffering from domestic violence and related issues. It wants to build an emergency shelter in order to provide a safe haven for people fleeing abuse.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the Kiwanis Club of Olds 50/50 cash raffle fundraiser is being offered online via Rafflebox.

Elliott said the club hopes to raise at least $5,000. But if sales go well, he thinks there's potential to raise as much as $10,000.

The fundraiser ends June 6. The draw date is Tuesday, June 8.

It can be accessed at this link: https://www2.rafflebox.ca/raffle/oldskiwanis

Ticket prices are 100 for $100, 20 for $50, four for $20 and one for $10.

Elliott says Rafflebox is a good solution for the club, given the COVID restrictions, but it’s just not the same as previous years when club members selling tickets could do so in person.

“We could have a conversation, get a chance to meet with the community, set up at the farmer’s market,” he said.
