Olds residents Grace and Don Fletch are heading into a new era.

For more than 25 years, they've organized the annual Terry Fox Run in Olds to raise money for cancer research. But as the run took place this past Sunday, Sept. 14, they announced they're stepping down from that role.

Grace says so far, there's no clear successor to take over the organizing, but she's confident someone will step forward.

Grace says they have no regrets.

“It's been really good,” she says. “But after 25 years, it's just time to step aside and let someone else take over. It's been a real nice time for us to do this. We feel like we've done our part and it's just time to move on.”

She says they still plan to walk in the event to help raise money for the cause.

The Fletches are going out on a fairly high note.

The 34th annual Terry Fox Run in Olds attracted 59 participants, nearly doubling last year's figure. Unfortunately, the total raised was slightly down: $6,225, compared to $6,715 last year.

Grace says the weather was awesome: sunny and warm but not too warm – much better than earlier in the week.

“It didn't rain and it didn't snow, so that's a bonus,” she says.
